Automatic Transmission Repair
If you have ever driven a car with an automatic transmission, then you know that there are two big differences between an automatic transmission and a manual transmission:
There is no clutch pedal in an automatic transmission car.
There is no gear shift in an automatic transmission car. Once you put the transmission into drive, everything else is automatic.
Both the automatic transmission (plus its torque converter) and a manual transmission (with its clutch) accomplish exactly the same thing, but they do it in totally different ways. This requires special attention when it comes to repairs and/or rebuilds. Let our professional work on your vehicle's automatic transmission and get your vehicle back on the road.
Manual Transmission Repair
The transmission allows the gear ratio between the engine and the drive wheels to change as the car speeds up and slows down. You shift gears so the engine can stay below the redline and near the rpm band of its best performance. The transmission is connected to the engine through the clutch. The input shaft of the transmission therefore turns at the same rpm as the engine.

That means there are many moving parts from your engine down to the wheels. Plenty of room for things to go wrong or fall out of tune. This means that you might not be getting the best gas mileage out of your vehicle, or you might even need a replacement for your clutch. And even if you don't think that it's time to change your clutch, a thorough inspection can catch things that are just about to go wrong, and potentially leave you stranded by the side of the road. Discount Transmission can perform all that is needed to get you on the road in a safe, and economic way.
Manual Flywheel Resurfacing
It's a good idea to have your flywheel resurfaced prior to installing a new clutch disc and pressure-plate assembly. This ensures the clutch-disc friction material seats into the flywheel properly for maximum holding capacity and service life. Also check the flywheel for run-out prior to and following the resurfacing process. If excessive run-out is found, check the flywheel for proper balance. Unless you have the skills to perform these diagnostics yourself, it's best to leave it to someone that has the experience to get the job done right. Our technicians have that experience and can perform these routine checks for you, along with many more.
Manual Clutch Service Repair
When a clutch is working smoothly, a manual transmission is like an extension of your right arm. You have complete control over the gears. You decide when to shift and which gears to use. There's no intervention by a computer and no isolation from the drivetrain. You're in control and always aware of which gear you're in.

Many people who buy sporty cars, performance cars and even trucks want the control that a manual transmission provides. A stick shift puts the fun back into driving, at least on the open road. But around town in heavy stop-and-go traffic, having to constantly ride the clutch and shift gears can be a real pain and make you wish you'd opted for an automatic - especially if the clutch is acting up.

Clutch problems can occur at almost any mileage and for a wide variety of reasons. When the clutch pedal is released and the clutch disc starts to rub against the flywheel and pressure plate, it generates friction and heat. This helps absorb the shock loading that would otherwise jolt the drivetrain every time the transmission was put into gear or shifted. A little slippage under these conditions is a good thing because it helps dampen loads that might otherwise damage gears, U-joints and CV joints. Don't trust your clutch repairs to anyone but us. Our ASE certified technicians are qualified to make the appropriate repairs correctly. Not everyone hires ASE certified technicians, but we do. We only hire the best to work on your transmission problems.
Electric & Non-Electric Diagnosis
If the transmission OD (overdrive) light is on or flashing, it means the transmission controller has diagnosed an internal transmission fault. To diagnose the problem, a scan tool that can read transmission codes must be plugged into the vehicle diagnostic connector (usually located under the dash near the steering column). The scan tool will then display the transmission code(s) that turned the warning light on. What happens next depends on the code. If the code indicates an internal performance problem, the transmission will probably need the attention of a specialist. Our shop can perform diagnostics using both electric and non-electric analysis to first determine the problem and then correctly fix it.
Standard Clutch Kit Replacement
Replacing the entire clutch kit is second nature to our team. We have the skills, experience, and equipment to properly remove the old kit, and replace it with a new one. Don't change your families safety and your vehicle's life to someone else. If you don't want to be stuck by the side of the road waiting for a tow truck, give us a call today and let us inspect your entire clutch and transmission. We'll let you know what it is wrong with your vehicle and what it's going to cost to repair it before any real work is done on the vehicle.
Rebuild/Replace CV Axles
For many years, the much-ballyhooed invention of the wheel has overshadowed the most likely, near-simultaneous invention of an equally important modern innovation: the axle. Without the axle, the wheel would not do anyone much good. While the wheel has remained more or less round since its inception, the axle has evolved to spin in all manner of configurations and situations. Insofar as automobiles are concerned, there are more than a few different types of axles. Some are of the short and stubby variety like the spindles upon which non-driven wheels spin. Things get more complicated, however, when the axles have to deliver power to the wheels. If you aren't getting the full strength of your engine all the way down to your vehicle's wheels, then chances are that there is something going on with the axle. We can diagnose the problem and replace or repair it, depending on the severity.
Complete Driveshaft Service
There's a lot that can go wrong between your engine and your wheels. For some, once the power leaves the transmission and hits the driveshaft, any problem there can shorten the life of those horses leaving the engine, causing a lack of power to the wheels, which of course leads to lack of fuel economy, and worst yet, potential problems with your vehicle as time goes on. This eventually leads to expensive repairs and replacement of parts. When you suspect that something could be wrong with your transmission, or any of the parts connected to it, think of Discount Transmission and let us help you fix that problem before it gets worst.
