transmission rebuild pt 1. check discription b4 posting comments

These video’s only show me putting the parts back in, it does not show me doing the first build up where i checked all clearances and using the correct size shims where required or the new bushings being fitted or new thrust washers or seals etc etc etc. I built it checking as i went, then stripped it down just to make a video of me putting the parts back in again. I don’t build transmission for a living, this is my own transmission from my truck.

  3. donell213 says:

wow thanks dude…you are the first person to tell me the easy way..damn does it grab 2nd gear..are 3.73gears to tall because id like a lil bit more on take off its an 88 chevy ext cab. thank you for the input!

  4. 4x4loonatic says:

@donell213 use vaseline ( petroleum jelly ) to keep the check balls in place while you put gasket plates and valve body back up.
follow your shift kit instructions as some require a hole drilled and a hole in one of the gasket plates blocked.
you should have it installed in a hour.

Hey call me stupid but ive been all over youtube. is there a video of how to install a shift kit in a th350 in the car or truck. The hard way on the ground on ur back. Not just the easy way which is the correct way. but all i want to do is put in a shift kit. SOS

  7. bobby72166 says:

wish someone would do a video on how to inspect and replace the park pawl.

  8. 4x4loonatic says:

@wafrederick not shown in the video that i had soaked all the fibre clutch plates before packing..

  9. wafrederick says:

I see one mistake you did, install the clutch fibers dry and do not ever do this. You soak them in clean ATF before installation.

  10. 4x4loonatic says:

@cjm1210 control valves could be stuck for shift problem or governor valve stuck
as for atf blowing out of dipstick tube i’m not sure.

  11. cjm1210 says:

Hey, I have a turbo 350 tranmission in my Trans Am, what would cause tranny fluid to come out of the top of the dip stick tube, and why won’t it shift out of 1st gear? Transmissions are the only thing I don’t know much about on cars. Thanks

    @notsoright Hi there
if the gunk looks like metallic particles it could be from a number of sources, ie worn front pump, worn bushings etc.
if the gunk looks like black gunge then that can be from worn clutch packs or cooked transmission oil.
either way it sounds like it is in need of being reconditioned, call round various transmission shops and get quotes for a rebuild.
other option is to get one from a vehicle salvage yard, take the oil pan off and check its clean inside and buy that.

i got a 97 jeep 4×4 and it takes alot of time and gas to pick up to first gear and so…..i changed the tranny oil and filter but to my surprise i saw alot of gunk on the magnet. What can it be?…need help before i get ripped off at the mechanics…ty

    @MrJamesmp547
i did a pre build before doing this video and checked all parts, fitted all new bushings and thrust washers, clutch pack clearance, shimmed at front pump, replaced hard parts where needed, etc. what you don’t know, dont comment on also if you listened in the video i clearly say this is the second time i put it together, this was the final build…..

  15. MrJamesmp547 says:

lol i would not have you bulid me a tranny. you didnt eve check the planetary gears for play never checked the pump never mic’d the drums damn boy your just winging it

  16. 4x4loonatic says:

glad you enjoyed it Andy :) professional at work lol

  17. 4x4loonatic says:

your other option would be to get another transmission from a junker which would be a lot cheaper than a rebuild, if you do take that route make sure you take the oil pan off and look at the oil and see if its clean and there are no metal particles or clutch debris in there, that way you know you have a good one, also make sure it comes with the torque converter still attached.
if there is dirt and crud in it go to the next one till you find a clean one.. a junker box should only cost you $550.

because it was whining or somthing so my dad had it done somewhere it was still under warranty he got it back and they didnt even fix it so he sent it back they fixed that time but forgot to hook up the backup lights then it was out of warranty and to be honest it probly needed rebuilt a good 30000 miles ago but i think he was saying it would atleast cost 1500 but i will deffently look into one of those manuals

  19. killdac says:

no it dosent take long for it to go into 1st at all i guess it would be 2nd and 3rd that shift hard then i and they dont take long to do it they just kinda truck just jumps forward i also know that the torque converter whines a bit i don’t remeber if it was always that loud even when it was brand new but i would guess that its gona need more work than my dad and i would want to do with out a lift because it has got 220,000 miles on it but the tans was rebuilt 2 times when we first got it

  20. 4x4loonatic says:

if you plan to rebuild it yourself you can get a master rebuild kit off ebay for about $175.
as for hard shift pattern it could be a couple of things doing it, i would suggest getting hold of a transmission manual for your truck and have a read up before spending big bucks, does it take time to engage 1st gear after selecting drive ? transmission manuals are about $12 to $15 and has fault and diagnose section that may help you…

  21. killdac says:

do you know what it would take or how much it would cost to rebuild a transmisson on a 2000 silverado 2500 it works but it shifts pretty hard into first and 2nd gear sometimes well most the time just sometimes reallt really hard its an automatic thats about all i know about it

  22. 4x4loonatic says:

not knowing what transmission you’ve got and if there where other problems before it failed completely its very hard to say.

  23. mattherklotz says:

why wont my car shift thru its gears?
it also wont go in reverse

  24. bigredi444 says:
