THANK YOU!!! $10 part and easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy got this thing fixed in a jiffy. My brake lights would only work if I pressed really hard on the pedal; after replacing the switch it’s just a light touch and they’re working again. 1999 Ford Explorer XLT.
I have the same problem, haven’t been able to fix it. 2006 ford expedition
You may have a bad ground. You may want to check the headlights and the parking lights to see if there’s a broken or a pinched wire. Hope this helps you out.
i need help my 79 gmc truck signals dont work properly, when i turn the signal left or right they both blink can any body help me
It should be fairly similar.
How much of a difference would this be to do on a 2001 crown victoria
You may want to check on the wires, and also the brake light switch to see if it’s loose or has some frayed wires causing the intermittent situation.
My brake light only works 50% of the time, what do I do?
It could be a brake light switch or even a wire coming off of the switch that could be frayed. Hope this helps you out.
I have a 99 Explorer Sport and my brake lights only work when I hit the pedal really hard. Could this be the brake light switch?
This helped me %100. I have a 96 Lincoln Towncar and all of a sudden when I went to go drive it one morning, it would not shift out from park and I had no break lights. I bought the break light switch for about $10 and it took me less then 10 min to install, it all works now. THANKS!!!!!
Thanks! You probably saved me $100 from having to bring it into a mechanic. Now, how do I get this crick out of my neck from having to work under the dash? LOL
You may want to test the brake light switch to see if it’s ok. If it is ok, also check for a broken or frayed wire coming off of the brake light switch.
Brake lights not working and car not shifting out of park can be a related problem. The brake light switch lets your car know you have your foot on the brake so you can take it out of park.
Thanks a lot. Very helpful video!
cool!!!! really i love my explorer you nailed the problem. thanks.
Your brake light switch would only affect the brake lights not working.
MY 1998 EXPEDITION WONT GO INTO GEAR ,COULD THAT ALSO BE THE BREAKLIGHT SWITCH? PLEASE HELP!!
I would test the switch and if it’s good, check for a possible broken or frayed wire somewhere that may be causing the issue.
i have a ’99 ford expedition. half of the brake lights don’t work. the only half that works is the passenger side (and i mean the passenger brake light works, and half of the top from the passenger side works as well). from the top, the other half from the driver side doesn’t work, and neither does the driver side brake light work. is it my switch that doesn’t work, or something else?
You may want to test the wires to see if you have current to the sockets. If you do not, I would test the brake light switch to see if there’s current coming from it when you press on the gas pedal. You may also want to check around the break light switch for broke or frayed wires.
MY CARGO LIGHT WORKS BUT MY 2 BREAK LIGHTS DO NOT WORK EVEN WITH NEW BULBS,, 98 FORD RANGER! ANY IDEAS ANYONE?
All three of my brake lights stopped working and this did the trick. Thank you for the video.
The dimmer switch should be located around the same area.
Okay. Thanks, but my headlight switch is on the left side.
