4L60E Rebuild Part 1

If you have been keeping up to date on the videos, then you’ll know that we welded the overrunning clutches together by doing reverse drops and such. So this video shows you the first part of the disassemble and rebuild process. We used a TCI master rebuild kit from Summit Racing that included the necessary parts, Corvette servo, shift kit, and valve body update kit.

    @mattb087 It doesn’t have a kickdown cable, it’s electronic. You’d have to tune it.

    hey bro you forgot to mention that under the last lo/ rev clutch support there is about 3 lip seals that need to be replaced when doing a 4l60e rebuild. but the rest is pretty much the way to go

    The reverse is out on my 1996 L460e transmission 4×4, is there a way to just repair the reverse clutch instead of the entire transmission. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME! EMAIL ME.

    @deadrabbit6 Hey dude, try adjusting the kickdown cable. If its shift kitted it will really firm up your shifts and chirp tyres. If you had the shift kit installed at a transmission specialists they would have set the kickdown very low.

    Hey there, i like your videos they are very informative. I have a 2000 c1500 4.3 with the 4l60e. I took off normally out of a parking lot and it started in second gear. Thought it was weird but kind of ignored it. When it hit 40 and droped into OD the shit hit the fan and it made the most horrific noises ever imagined. Tires locking up and everything. It was violent. Do you have any ideas of what that could be and how i could fix? Any help is appreciated

    @johndeereman19 I would get the 378900 kit, or if you wanted the extremely high performance clutches, you can get the 378915 kit.

    @th3kingflores Well if it’s an automatic, then this is the exact transmission as this one. If it’s a stick, then it’s a Borg Warner T5 5 speed.

    hey bro i was watching your video and your tear down looked complicated which is when i noticed the 4l60e is an automatic transmission. if i have a 98 chevy camaro with the v6 3.8l what kind of tranny do i have??? thanks your video was awesome anyways thumbs up

    @deadrabbit6 Very hard. Hard enough to squawk the tires from first to second at wide open throttle depending on tire configuration. But the firm shift means that the clutches slip less, and less material is worn away. The fluid stays fresher, for longer, and less heat is built up. But eventually (5-10k miles) the transmission will soften itself out, leaving an above average shift.

    How much harder than factory does this trans shift while cruising around town?  I just installed the kit in mine but didn’t replace springs or drill holes. I was afraid it would shift too hard for daily use. Now the shifts aren’t hard enough.

    @eqd888 Yes, I would recommend to get a full rebuild kit with clutches, seals, and valve body update kit. The kit we used included the Corvette 2-4 servo, premium grade clutches and band, and scat shift kit, along with the valve body update kit. This kit was around 270 dollars, so you could probably get a basic rebuild kit for cheaper. And I would also replace the torque converter as well. It’s a good idea considering the wear on the torque converter clutch.

    if i attemp to locate the problem would it just make sense to just buy a rebuild kit and do everything…how much does a rebuild kit cost…and should i replace the torque converter also?

    @eqd888 Haha, thanks man. It sound like that the 3-4 clutch assembly in the transmission isn’t activating. It could be anything from bad clutches, to a valve body issue or check ball issue.

    will buy you guys a beer if i run into you.. thanks for the video.. My 03′ trailblazer will shift into 1st and 2nd, but wont shift into 3rd or 4th…i havent tryied to rev the rpms. I cant manually shift it either.. park, nuetral, reverse, 1st and 2nd all work fine….any ideas?
